I have not pored over the speeches and writings of every president since George Washington, but I think it’s safe to say that never in our history has a president of the United States showed such utter disregard, and disdain, for every American outside the billionaire class.
Donald Trump does not care you, me nor the millions of poor blind souls who bought the MAGA hats and signed on to the wholesale transfer of wealth from their bank accounts to those of Trump and his cronies.
He showed it this week.
After the Supreme Court ruled his nonsensical but horrendous tariffs, a tax on American consumers, were beyond his authority, Trump and his henchmen and women went to work searching for a loophole. They found it and invoked it and so here we are again, until at least the Supreme Court gets a chance to rule against him again.
Trump imposed tariffs of 50 percent on a range of Canadian products and goods. Wine, dairy, plywood, furniture, cement, even hockey sticks. He cited an obscure section of the 1930 Tariff Act which would seem to allow a tariff if it can be shown another country discriminates against U.S. goods and products. In this case Trump said Canada were discriminating against U.S. cars, dairy and alcohol products.
It’s not just Canada Trump is targeting. According to sources a list of 60 nations that could face tariffs has been compiled.
Full pause. In a world where other nations have been so hot for U.S. culture and products that their own cultural identifies have been threatened is the U.S. really being discriminated against? The short answer is “no.” But the longer answer is that in some cases other nations responded to Trump’s tariffs by imposing ones of their own.
Back to Trump not giving a damn about any of us. If these tariffs stand on wood products, for instance, the cost all construction in the U.S. is going to go up. That cost will be paid by U.S. consumers in higher prices and at a time when housing is becoming more and more unaffordable for many (especially the young) more will be priced out of the market.
We already have seen huge shifts in world markets in large part of Trump’s scattershot, and scatterbrained, economic “policies.” Brazil has taken over as the world’s largest beef exporter. Nations are starting to turn to China as a business partner and customer.
Prices for U.S. consumers remain higher overall than when Trump came into office and he has done nothing but pour more gasoline on an economic dumpster fire. Add to tariffs, insider trading the war of choice in Iran and you have a recipe for economic disaster. Except, of course, for Trump’s billionaire buddies who are riding the artificial intelligence/tech wave and insider trading and are largely immune from price fluctuations at the grocery store or gas pump.
So, there you have it. War, tariffs, insider trading and a completely amoral and corrupt family lining its pockets dollar-by-dollar with money pick-pocketed from American consumers.
As we approach the November mid-terms and move on to the 2028 presidential race, keep this in mind: Donald Trump not only doesn’t give a damn about you, he doesn’t know you exist and would rather you didn’t. Maybe even worse, it’s obvious Republicans in Congress either share that sentiment or are too cowardly to stand up to bully and crook.
