When will the remaining Trump die-hards say “enough?” They probably won’t but come November, true citizens have an option – they can show up and vote.
On a moral level it’s hard to justify any war, but trying to justify Donald Trump’s and Pete Hegseth’s little pecker display of manhood in attacking Iran is beyond being morally possible.
Now that we are deep into this quagmire it’s interesting to see how Trump keeps justifying it. Just this week he promised to obliterate Iran because it killed American troops.
Seriously? That even one American has been wounded in this sorry affair, let alone killed, is beyond sad and beyond acceptable. But let us pause and look at the complete dumb-ass-edness of Trump’s comment.
Trump bombed Iran. Trump killed Iranians, including children. Anyone with the brain function required to draw breath knows that when a nation is attacked it has the right, if not the obligation, to fight back and defend itself.
What the F did Trump expect? He attacked, Iran responded and now he wants to escalate to punish Iran for its response? Only in the delusional fog that passes for Trump’s brain can make sense.
It’s bad enough that Trump and his collection of Third Reich wannabes are coming after our democracy on all its levels, committing actions that consign average Americans to economic decline and hardship. That’s all bad enough. But that Trump and Hegseth (who seems to love war so long as the bullets and bombs aren’t finding him and he can treat it like Warcraft) have chosen war and international chaos as a distraction is both pathetic and criminal.
Yes, criminal. As Trump seems to be moving toward bombing bridges, power plants and other infrastructure he is doing the sort of things the international community has defined as war crimes.
I’ve got a question for those of you out there who might still be supporting this bunch of psychopaths. It is a simple one. How much more are you willing to explain away just so you can have in office people who share your hate for (circle all that apply): Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, women, queer folk, transgenders, “others?”
War stands between humanity and its collective claiming of soul. I know – some wars need to be fought. It took a war for our nation to become a nation. It took war to end slavery and reaffirm we are one nation. It took war to stop Hitler and his allies. Would that those were uncommon and rare events.
Since World War II we have had wars (under other names) in Korea, Vietnam and other parts of southeast Asia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and now Iran. That, of course, does not include the horrors created by other nations. All these wars have one thing in common – with the exception of Kuwait (where we did what we said we would do and then stopped) these did not end well for the U.S.
Against that backdrop of history a sick and declining man aided by a cabal of elitist, anti-American autocrats have now taken us and the world into a fiery pit, and for no reason. There was no reason – none – for Trump to have bombed Iran. The Obama nuclear deal was in place and working. The Straits of Hormuz were open. Now the Houthis, the militant group back by Iran, are blocking another strait Saudi Arabia relies on to export its oil. Better top off that tank today!
There was no need for any of this. It is happening because the United States turned over control of its fate to forces of darkness and evil. If the U.S. dies as a democracy the autopsy will show only one cause: self-inflicted.
The only way to undo a self-inflicted wound of a political nature is through self-healing. Trump is planning to hi-jack the mid-terms come November. He is planning that through using a combination of National Guard troops and ICE at polling places, declaring a national emergency over non-existent claims of threats and by seizing voting machines and ballots in heavily Democrat (and heavily non-white) areas.
The only way to combat this is for people who still support what our nation can and should be to show up in such numbers that anything Trump does or tries to do will be thwarted.
Let’s stick with “war” as an analogy. Election day November 2026 is going to be a one-day war. But it’s one citizens can fight without guns, bombs, hurting anyone or being hurt. It’s a war that can be won simply by showing up.
The United States can return to a leadership role in the world. It can turn its attention to caring for the least of those within it and creating hopeful futures for coming generations. But first, it has to take out the trash. Show up or shut up.
